Halo:Reach is EPIC!

I'm not a fanboy by any stretch of imagination. I enjoy games because they really and truly are good games. Despite this, I still get accused of being biased to the Halo series.

Halo, to me, has always had a very strong story, and a wonderful way of telling it. The play environments have been unique, and the characters memorable. Seriously, who hasn't wanted to be Master Chief!

I was sent a copy of Halo: Reach by my dad, and was very anxious to get in some play time. I finally threw it in late Friday night, and was greeted with what is probably the best intro to a Halo game ever. The graphics are bar-none some of the best in the series, and the action begins from step one.

I will do a full review after I get some more time with the game, but so far, so awesome!

Finally got in some game time this weekend!

Well, after a long hiatus from real game time, I finally got some in. Nothing crazy, just some Dead Space on PS3, and Modern Warfare 2 on 360.

MW 2 was just a few rounds of Spec-Ops co-op with my dad. It was actually a lot of fun. We needed to both clear out some 2-player only missions. For the record, I LOVE to rain bullets from flying vehicles.

I also decided to pick up the original Dead Space again. DS2 is on the way and I want the story fresh in mind. Let me sat, even though I played it already, that game can still give me chills. I really hope the next chapter is as good as this one.

More Time, More Content!

Hey everyone. And by everyone, I mean my loyal 3 followers...

Due to a career adjustment, I'm now driving for an LTL carrier, so I will be home every evening and off on weekends. What this means is that I'll have a lot more time to game and work on the blog.

Also, I'll be starting to work on the audio podcast as well as some video content. You know, the stuff I promised forever ago!

One more thing... I ditched the craptastic iPhone for a Samsung Captivate (Android ftw!). It's much easier to road-blog with. Look for some cool on the fly stuff coming up.

Happy Birthday Mario!

On September 13, 1985, Nintendo introduced us to the game that would bring the most notable character in the gaming world to the mainstream. Super Mario Brothers in the NES console is a game that almost everyone involved in video games today has played for hours on end. We were treated to bottomless pits, breaking bricks, and the idea that shrooms were power food.

Happy 25th birthday Mario, and thank you for the memories!

Daily plays

Well, since Pokemon: Soul Silver came out, it's been glued into my DS. I didn't know I could actually enjoy a Pokemon game, but it really is fun.

This weekend is the Midwest Gaming Classic, so look for coverage from the event right here.

OTRGamer's Daily Plays, the really delayed edition...

I did it again. I've been forgetting to post my daily plays. Yes, I AM a noob...

So, for the fans out there, I've now added the blog to an iPhone app, so I really have no excuses to update. If I don't, you have my permission to wave an angry fist at me.

Anyhow, this week I've been working my way through New Super Mario Bros DS. I'm absolutely hooked on this game! I even want to play it sitting at home.

I'm also playing Mariokart DS off and on.

So there you have it. Keep the rubber side down!

So, I broke down and bought a Nintendo DS Lite...

And I am in love with it!

Now, let me set a bit of a back story on this one. I used to have a Gameboy SP, and I played the little machine so much I thought the buttons were going to fall off. Then, shortly after the release of the original DS, I sold it and purchased the DS. I was immediately unhappy with the swap. The original DS was a large and clunky machine, and most games relied heavily on the use of all the controls, as well as the stylus.

The combination of the controls and the bulk of the machine made it very hard for me to use. Games I should have loved, such as Metroid, were virtually un-playable. Eventually, it got traded in and forgotten about.

I moved to the PSP, and I was reminded how good portable gaming could be. I honestly thought nothing could top this little powerhouse. I watched the release of the DS Lite, and DSi both, all while playing away on the PSP, blissfully unaware of what I was missing.

There was, however, always one glaring problem with the PSP. That problem was the selection of casual games. Now, don't get me wrong, I"m a hardcore gamer, and love a deep and involving storyline. However, sometimes I just simply don't have the time to lay down an hour or so between saves. I really needed a system that I could whip out, play for 15 minutes or so, and not have to pay much attention to.

Queue this Thursday, and some time on Craigslist. I was sitting in a truck stop in Johnson Creek, WI, and located a local guy selling a black DS Lite, cheap. He was willing to meet me at the truck stop, and the deal was done. The system came with a copy of Mariokart DS, and was purchased for a whopping $50. I figured even if I didn't like it, my son would.

I spent about 15 minutes playing Mariokart DS, before I was hooked. The problems I had with my first DS were all gone! The size was perfect, the game barely used the stylus, and it was a great time-waster!

Since I picked it up, I've made a couple trips to local gaming stores, and picked up copies of Super Mario DS, and Super Mario 64 DS. Both of these titles are fantastic, and reviews will be following in the coming days.

Seriously, though, why couldn't this have been the original console?
